I will be the celebrant at the 12.00 Mass and Procession, and Fr Philip Barnes the much-loved recent administrator of the Shrine at Walsingham will be the preacher.
There’s then time for you to eat a picnic on the lawns of Cathedral Green, and perhaps return to the cathedral for the Rosary before the Blessed Sacrament, and join me at 3.30 Evensong at which I shall preach.
As happens in all the main cathedrals in the summer, when the choir is on holiday, there’s an accomplished visiting choir—on this occasion from the east coast of the USA—to support the feast with great music.
This pilgrimage continues the long tradition of the Bristol Catholic Societies Assumptiontide Festival, which in the future will continue under my auspices in partnership with the cathedral, which is so very hospitable a place for the Ebbsfleet Chrism Masses.
The Mass will not be concelebrated but all clergy are welcome to vest, sit in the choir and join the procession. Please let Catherine Williamson know (firstname.lastname@example.org) whether you intend to robe and process (cotta and white stole)
