Rector of St Paul's Hasland and Vicar of St James Temple Normanton

St Paul and St James have a long history of Anglo-Catholic worship and are looking to appoint a priest of the Society of St Wilfred and St Hilda.

The parishes are situated just south of the busy market town of Chesterfield and on the edge of the Peak District National Park.

The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of sacramental theology and Anglo-Catholic liturgy, an ability to lead the church in mission, an ability to stimulate and challenge, a strong pastoral instinct and excellent communication skills.

The parish is looking for a priest who will:

  • continue to develop relationships between the parishes and local schools and help the parishes to grow their work with young people;
  • lead an existing team of lay people;
  • be a visible presence in the communities of the parishes, embracing local concerns and identifying partnership opportunities.
Bishop Jonathan writes:
The two communities, that have set out in their profile their call to priests who have been formed in the catholic tradition in the Church of England and are excited about its future, to join them in serving the Lord in Hasland and Temple Normanton, share many characteristics and hopes for the future, not the least being their unity and welcome.
Among the fruits of Fr Ainscough's long ministry here (2003 - 2017) is their openness both to the spiritual leadership and teaching of their parish priest and to the needs and opportunities of the wider church.  But their able and diverse laity have a growing sense also of the shared mission of clergy and people, of the challenges of community evangelism.  They are imaginative and forward-looking in terms of communication and outreach, dedicated to growing in and sharing with others the rich spiritual treasures of catholic faith, worship and evangelism, and to supporting one another as a real family in Christ.
I pray that as you read the profile you will remain open to the possibility that it is indeed you whom God is calling and that if He is then you will apply so that we have the opportunity to take the conversation further.

Ebbsfleet Parishes Development Mentor

The Ebbsfleet ‘Lay Congress’ in March 2016 saw over 400 lay people from different Ebbsfleet dioceses coming to Coventry Cathedral to hear an outline of 8 ‘Essential Qualities’ (8EQs) which enable churches to be healthy and flourish.  These qualities are based on international research of over 80,000 churches by Natural Church Development (NCD).  Encouraged by positive feedback from the Congress, and experience of the qualities in practice within churches in the Diocese of Coventry, the Bishop of Ebbsfleet has requested assistance from the Diocese of Coventry in developing this approach wider.  Funding from the Church Commissioners has been secured to assist in this contribution to mutual flourishing.  This new and exciting post has been created to assist in developing these qualities in parishes served by the See of Ebbsfleet.

We are therefore seeking applications from Anglican priests with a generous and mature personal Christian faith and presence, inhabiting and nourished by Anglo-Catholic tradition, and who have:

  • ·                  The desire and ability to ‘win’ and empower others.
  • ·                  Good coaching and mentoring skills.
  • ·                  The ability to win the respect of key strategic Diocesan staff and the Bishop of Ebbsfleet’s Representatives in the relevant Dioceses, and clergy and people of the parishes.
  • ·                  Experience of senior leadership in churches in different contexts (ideally including both urban and rural) leading to growth across all ages and backgrounds.
  • ·                  Experience of implementation of vision and strategy, creation and adaptation of appropriate processes, and evaluation and analysis of systems and results.
  • ·                  Experience in recruiting, motivating and training volunteers.

Ebbsfleet Parishes Development Mentor Job Description

Vicar: St Paul's Coven (House for Duty)

The benefice is situated in the very pleasant semi-rural village community of Coven located in South Staffordshire on the North-West border of Wolverhampton.

The parish has passed a resolution under the House of Bishops' Declaration.

Bishop Jonathan writes:

The Christian community that has set out in this profile its call to priests who have been formed in the catholic tradition in the Church of England and are excited about its future, to join them in serving the Lord in Coven, has a strong sense of commitment to their wider community and hope for the future.

The congregation rightly has a high expectation of the spiritual leadership and teaching of their parish priest, but they also have a growing sense also of the shared mission of clergy and people, and of the challenge of community evangelism. They are imaginative and forward-looking in terms of communication and outreach, dedicated to growing in and sharing with others the rich spiritual treasures of catholic faith, worship and evangelism, to meeting human need, and to supporting one another as a real family in Christ.

I pray that as you read you will remain open to the possibility that it is indeed you whom God is calling, and that if he is then you will apply so that we have the opportunity to take the conversation further.

We’re praying for you – please pray for us.
